Where do your Waterton tours start?

It depends on the adventure. Some start right in the Waterton townsite, others meet at trailheads or nearby locations. Don’t worry—we’ll tell you exactly where to go so you’re not wandering around wondering if you’re in the right place.

Are your tours good for first-time visitors?

Absolutely! If it’s your first time in Waterton, this is one of the easiest ways to skip the guesswork and get straight to the good stuff. If you’ve been before, we’ll help you see it in a whole new way.

What is the best time of year to visit Waterton?

Short answer: Whenever you can get here.

Summer: High energy, long days, and peak wildflower season.
Fall: Golden larches and way fewer photo-bombers.
Winter: Snowy, quiet, and seriously underrated (plus: zero crowds). Pick your favorite vibe; we’ll meet you there.

How long do Waterton tours usually last?

Some tours are a quick add-on to your day, while others are half-day or full-day experiences. Either way, we respect your time, and your legs.

Do I need to book in advance?

We highly recommend it. Waterton may feel wild and free, but tour spots are not. Booking ahead means you get the day you want, without the “ahhh it’s full” moment.

What should I bring on a Waterton tour?

A few essentials go a long way:

layers (mountain weather likes surprises)
water
a sense of adventure

What happens if the weather is bad?

This is the mountains—weather does what it wants.

We don’t cancel for a little rain or chill (that’s part of the experience), but if conditions are unsafe, we’ll adjust, reschedule, or cancel. Your safety always comes first.

Are private tours available?

Yes! If you want something more personal, relaxed, or tailored to your group, we can often arrange a private experience. Just reach out and we’ll make it happen.

Are your tours family-friendly?

Some are perfect for families, others are better suited for adults or older kids. If you’re not sure, just ask, we’ll help you pick the right fit so everyone enjoys it (and no one melts down halfway through).

What wildlife might we see in Waterton?

Waterton is full of life—bighorn sheep, deer, bears, birds, and more.

We can’t make promises (it is not the zoo), but we can definitely increase your chances of being in the right place at the right time.

WHAT ABOUT DOGS?

Can my dog join the adventure?

On our public walking tours and hiking trips, our human guests get all the spotlight, so we ask that you leave your four-legged friends at home base or book in with Wooferton Dog Kennels in town.

But, if you’re booking a private walking tour, or guided hike? We’re all ears! We consider canine tag-alongs on a case-by-case basis.

No dogs allowed in any case on our Sightseeing Tours.

If my dog makes the VIP list, what are the rules of the trail?

Even wild explorers need a few ground rules (Parks Canada insists, and we agree!).

If you’re bringing your pup on a private tour:

On-leash only: Keep your buddy safely by your side on a leash (maximum 3 metres/10 feet).

Leave only paw prints: Please pack out any doggy deposits and help us keep the park beautiful.

Give the locals space: Dogs need to stay well away from wildlife. (The Waterton town deer are particularly unimpressed by new four-legged friends!)

Good trail manners are a must: Dogs joining a tour must be well-behaved, under control and comfortable around people. For the safety and comfort of our guides and guests, we reserve the right to refuse or end a tour if a dog shows aggressive, threatening or unsafe behaviour. Any costs associated with a refused or ended tour remain the responsibility of the client.

How do we score a private tour with fido?

Just give us a shout when you’re booking!

Tell us about your adventure buddy, and we’ll make sure your custom itinerary is safe, fun, and totally tail-wag-worthy.

Can my dog just chill in the car while I take a public tour?

Hard no on this one, friends. Vehicles turn into ovens way too fast out here in the wild. If you're hopping on a public tour, treat your pup to a doggy day-camp or a sitter before heading our way!

Are you the same company as Shoreline Cruise Co.?

Nope! Waterton Tours and Shoreline Cruise Co. are two completely separate companies offering different ways to experience Waterton Lakes National Park.

Shoreline Cruise Co. operates sightseeing boat tours on Waterton Lake, while Waterton Tours focuses exclusively on guided land-based adventures. We specialize in scenic driving tours, wildlife experiences, guided hikes, wildflower walks, and customized private tours.

Basically, if you’re looking for an unforgettable guided experience on land, you are in exactly the right place!

Do you offer boat cruises or Shoreline Cruise tours?

We don’t! While we love the water, sightseeing boat tours on Waterton Lake are actually run by our friends over at Shoreline Cruise Co., which is a completely separate business.

Instead, Waterton Tours specializes in keeping our feet (and wheels!) on the ground. We offer guided, land-based adventures throughout Waterton Lakes National Park, including scenic driving tours, wildlife spotting, guided hikes, wildflower walks, and private tours.

If you’re looking to explore the park’s incredible landscapes and stories beyond the lake, our local guides would love to show you around!

What if I have to cancel?

Life happens, we get it.

Cancellation terms vary depending on the tour, but we always aim to be fair and clear. You’ll see the details when booking, and we’re happy to clarify anything upfront. View them here right now if you like.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes, please. Before your adventure begins, you’ll be asked to sign a waiver.

If you’re bringing minors, there are a couple extra steps to keep everything covered.
