Meet Heather

Part Mountain Goat, Part Walking Encyclopedia

Heather brings a rare mix of hardcore backcountry expertise, leadership, and an infectious love for a good time to every single hike. She doesn’t just march you up a mountain, she introduces you to it. Armed with an absurd amount of knowledge about the local history, geology, and plant life, Heather spots the things most tourists walk right past. From the scandalous double-life of a trailside wildflower to the epic tectonic tantrums etched into the stone, she turns every step into a backstage pass to the wild.

What really makes Heather an absolute legend, though, is her superpower for reading the trail and her hikers. Whether you’re a seasoned summit-chaser or someone who just figured out which way your hiking boots go on, she meets you exactly where you’re at. She adjusts the pace, dishes out the best local stories, and makes sure everyone in the group feels like a backcountry rockstar.

Tripping over your brand-new walking poles? Staring down a tricky patch of terrain? Heather is right there with a pro-tip, a high-five, and zero judgment. She takes the intimidation out of the climb, keeping the vibe super fun and lighthearted, even when the elevation gain kicks in.

Her energy is contagious, her brain is packed with mountain trivia, and her knack for making the wild feel totally welcoming is exactly why people immediately plot their next adventure with her.

Meet Cohan

Part Expert Navigator, Part Wildlife Whisperer

Born and raised in Lethbridge, Cohan treats the nearby Rockies like his own giant backyard playground. If he’s out of the office, your best bet is to check the slopes at Castle Mountain, follow the boot prints deep into the backcountry, or look for the guy trying to outsmart a trout in the local rivers.

His mild obsession with fresh air and chatting up strangers makes him a natural fit as a sightseeing guide in Waterton Lakes National Park. Armed with eagle-eyed wildlife spotting skills and the ability to breeze through the Red Rock and Akamina parkways, he’s wildly passionate about showing off the park to anyone who will listen.

When he’s not playing tour guide, Cohan is actively chipping away at his Natural Resource Compliance degree. His ultimate master plan? Becoming an Alberta Conservation Officer so he can officially get paid to protect the wild places he refuses to leave.

Meet Katie

Part Trailblazer, Part Walking Gear Shop

Katie’s obsession with the high country began at age 7 on a family trip to Waterton Lakes National Park, making her current gig as a guide here a true full-circle moment. An Ontario native who traded the flatlands for the peaks, she’s been living the mountain dream in Nelson, BC for the past eight years.

Her hiking boots have trekked everywhere from the local Kootenays to trails around the world. As an ACMG Apprentice Hiking Guide, Katie is passionate about dragging—er, guiding—visitors into the wild to share her infectious joy for the outdoors.

Outside of guiding, Katie’s schedule is a wild mix of high energy and heavy clay. Whether she’s leading a packed Zumba class, tutoring ESL students, or throwing pots for her small ceramics business, she essentially refuses to sit still.

LEAVE IT BETTER THAN WE FOUND IT

We’ve got a wild, slightly audacious dream: to help heal the banged-up landscapes of the Canadian Rockies. Between historic mining, heavy exploration, and trails that have simply been loved half to death, these mountains need a little TLC.

Heather is a total science nerd (the best kind, with the Environmental and Biological Science degrees to prove it). After years of navigating the treacherous terrain of government and consulting work, she decided it was time to get her boots dirty and take real action for the eastern slopes.

The cool part: when you head into the wild with Waterton Tours, operated by Uplift Adventures, you are signing up for a ridiculously good time while directly funding our mission to restore the backcountry we all play in.

Let's go do some good!
